Word Vault is an app released July 2013 by Home Speech Home. In a nutshell, the app is full of articulation and language word lists. This allows the SLP to easily use the app for group therapy, one-one therapy or when traveling. Take two minutes and watch the video to hear the app details. When I first looked over the app I wasn’t sure if I would use it that often because it was more of an app for SLPs, rather than for direct student use. Let me tell you. I was wrong on that one! After the first day I used it, it’s been a steady “go-to”. I’ve especially used it for when an activity isn’t going well, we finish early, or if I didn’t have time to plan. I’ve just been able to pull out language lists to adapt my lesson plans in seconds. This week, my mind went blank and I couldn’t recall any other multiple meaning words. I just grabbed the Word Vault app and was back in business! Here is a peek at our last few weeks. I tried to grab a few pictures. Switching between sound lists! A few more details: The app includes Articulation: 87 articulation word lists organized by sound, syllable, and position (initial, medial, final, blend). Provides an easy way to email word lists as homework to a parent or caregiver. Phonological Processes: 425 “Minimal Pairs” lists are organized by sound substitution, which makes discrimination, auditory bombardment, and the phonological treatment approach easier. “Multisyllabic Words” provides common, functional words up to 5 syllables to practice advanced articulation. Apraxia: “Vowels” and “Nonsense Syllables” help you treat Apraxia at the lowest level and create syllables without missing any vowels. “Multisyllabic Words” can be used to help clients improve the planning, sequencing, and coordination of muscle movements for speech. Fluency & Voice: All lists can be used to practice reduced rate, easy onset, pausing and phrasing, and other speech and voice techniques. Language: 80 lists of words in the following areas: Categories, Basic Concepts, WH Questions, Following Directions, Short Stories, Longer Narratives, Phonological Awareness: The “Minimal Pairs” lists provide words to teach rhyming and manipulation of phonemes (addition, deletion, segmentation, and substitution). Social: 26 Lists included. “Conversation Starters” can be used to practice pragmatic skills and narrative skills with a partner or a group, or be used to build rapport and prompt spontaneous speech during an evaluation. That all boils down to over 30,000 stimulus items. The app is easy to navigate. The buttons are intuitive so you can quickly search for what you’re looking for. The left side bar adjusts how you view the words on the page. The right side bar controls the type of words by place and syllable. Use the bottom bar to add other word lists or to navigate back to home. Check out this link to learn more details about the Word Vault App. It’s listed in iTunes for $9.99. Pros: We buy iPads for two reasons. To engage students or to consolidate therapy materials for easy mobility. Word Vault helps SLPs consolidate dozens of decks of cards and therapy manuals into one easy to use app. I love that I can have multiple pages/stimulus lists open to make group therapy a snap. Last week, I couldn’t get my printer to work in the clinic but I easily emailed the homework to the parent. I also see huge benefits for SLPs quickly gathering baseline data quarterly or during evaluations. Cons: The app has lists, so my students didn’t use it directly. I’d love to see pictures in future updates so that students can independently say words, rather than imitate me. In the vocalic /r/ section of the app, the words are not separated by initial, medial, final position. So much of my caseload is /r/ so I’d love to see this section beefed up. I’d also love the ability to add my own lists to the app, creating customized lists for students or skills not included. The developers provided me with a copy of this app for review. No other compensation was provided. They are also providing FIVE codes for giveaway! Enter using rafflecopter below. a Rafflecopter giveaway

This looks like such a great and useful app–seems worth the money, but I can get carried away with buying apps and items on TpT, so need to prioritize and choose carefully. This would probably make the buy it anyway list.
