Fun with R {app review and giveaway}

Virtual Speech Center recently released a new app entitled ‘Fun with R’. Fun with R utilizes an arcade format to practice production of the /r/ sound. Adjust the settings from the home page. Start by adding your students. Then select from activities featuring Flashcards, Memory Game and Bingo Game.  Select the phonemes to target (edit the included words as needed).  Within the app you can choose between word/phrase/sentence level and initial/medial final position.  The flashcards activity allows the player to move through each flashcard with practice. You can record the trials or listen to a model.  In the memory game a pop-up appears and has the student attempt the word before moving to choose a second card. This slows the student down and makes them work on the sound and not just worry about the matches!  At the top of the page you can select between two different players.  The Bingo Game has students look for matches on their bingo board. As they find picture matches they mark them on the board and they are covered by a blue square.  You can select data reports by sounds target or by date.  Enter your own /r/ word using this simple form. Of course ‘Rayburn’ is often ‘Waybun’ in my room so I added my name first 🙂 Pros:  An /r/ app is highly in demand for my caseload! The app remembers the last phoneme target you selected, speeding up the use of the app. I love the ability to customize the word lists. Cons: The app doesn’t have an option to alternate between the players. That transition back and forth is very cumbersome. Especially on apps like Bingo and Memory. The app is listed for $19.99 in the iTunes store. Enter to win a free copy using the rafflecopter widgit below! a Rafflecopter giveaway
