This review is NOT the typical Speech Room News review. Today is all about making your room the ‘aquarium’! Education Insights asked if I was interested in reviewing their new Fluorescent Light Filters. These filters fit right over the top of my horrible fluorescent lights. My office has two lights and they were giving me such a horrible headache. The flickering bulbs were enough to make me jump at the chance to do this review. They are flame retardant and the 2-pack includes a Certificate of Conformance for flame retardancy that can be provided to the fire marshal. I taped mine to the wall so when the fire marshal comes in I can show it to him! They just attach with super strong magnets to your current lights. Ok, let’s talk turkey… The first week I put them up, one teacher testing in my room. By 3 pm the next day, two handfuls of teachers had stopped by to check out my new light covers! If it gets the teachers coming down to my office, you know they are cool! The first morning I had the lights up, one of my students with autism walked up to me. Overheard… “Look Ms. Rayburn, It’s an aquarium!” The packaging of the Fluorescent Light Filters claims it reduces glare and flickering, which helps create a calming work environment for students. Mostly it saves me from headaches and tired eyes! I HATE fluorescent lights! The light filters can only be purchased on the educational insights website and on Amazon (link below). I have seen some hard plastic covers that are difficult to insert. These look so much easier to install.
I think they’d make any room more calm!

I think fluorescent lights are so harsh on the eyes. These would be great to help calm some some the preschool special needs kids that I see for speech.

I have been having trouble handling the lights in my room this year. These might be just the thing I need.

These would solve a lot of my problems! I would in EI and the majority of my caseload is young newly or undiagnosed autism. My Office is my therspy room and it’s closet sized yet has 2 fluorescent lights that drive me (and my kiddos) crazy! Not only do I get headaches, but my kiddos just stare at the lights the entire 45 minute sessions! I let one light burn out already which has helped but this would be great!!

I would like to reduce the glare in my office. Now if you could only do something about the humming noise they make!!! A cute muffler, maybe???
Heather says
Would live to take some of the harshness out of my room. I have 4 lights!
Kristina Young says
What a coincidence that you posted about this! My special ed teacher was just telling me about these and how much she wishes she had some! I had not seen anything like this before, but what a FABULOUS idea! My kiddos on the spectrum would greatly benefit from this!

These look so cool! So many teachers in our schools have painted their light covers or do as I do and turn on only half the lights. I would LOVE to try these out!

Oooh I need to get some of these!! I get headaches too and I have an “emergency light” in my room so I can NEVER turn it off!! These things look great.
Marisa says
These would be so perfect for my speech room!
Valerie says
I’ve got a room with LOTS of fluorescent lights so any help to mitigate the effects would be greatly appreciated.

I am so excited to have a whole class room (all to myself) for speech this year, but along with that comes a room full of fluorescent lights! Many of them blinking at times. These would be great! Plus, I would be excited to see the amount of language my kiddos would when they saw them!

I get headaches, too!!

TODAY I had a child with autism tell me (in so many words) that the light was too bright while covering his eyes so I was contemplating what to do as I got on Facebook! As someone with chronic headaches and migraines I would love it too!

These look fantastic!!!!!
Nicole Allison says
These would be great! My lights are constantly flickering and just plain ugly. What a great way to spruce up a room without windows!

Fluorescent lighting is just so ugly and irritating.

I often get headaches during the day, and never thought about the lighting. I also have significant retina issues with my eyes, and these may be helpful with that.

I would love for it to save me from my light sensitivity and migraines and I’m sure my students would benefit as well

I work in two classrooms with Pe-K/K students on the autism spectrum. Would love to intro these to the teachers and show them what a difference they can make.
Mary Keiger says
These filters would be perfect for my office! I love the soft blue color. My students complain often about the distractions and the bright lights in their classroom. This may help my high school students that complain of headaches, too. I had purchased something similar before, but they did not work with my size lights. I saw that these attach with a magnet so they should be perfect. Great idea, Jenna!

I love these! I teach in an intensive learning center for students with Autism, and this would be helpful in our sensory room.
Lisa says
I would love to have some of these in the preschool classes I serve!
Isabel Martinez says
I often just leave the lights turned off when kids are not in the room. It doesn’t necessarily help me work faster. So this would be quite helpful. Thanks!!

Our fire marshal bill says they don’t pass the code, even with the certificate. Bummer.
