Early Intervention Counts! May is Better Hearing and Speech Month (#BHSM) and this year the theme is Early Intervention Counts. You’re talking to a preschool SLP here so I know just how important early intervention is!
A recent study in the journal Pediatrics showed a significant increase between 2001–2002 and 2010–2011 in disability associated with speech problems among U.S. children. Parents should never delay an assessment if they suspect a problem with their child’s speech or language. Early treatment is associated with a shorter and less expensive course of treatment. It is also more effective: Studies have shown that children who receive services prior to age 3 have better outcomes than those receiving services after age 5.
