When I hit my favorite local mall I always take advantage of being on that side of town to make two extra stops. First, Goodwill. You know I love some thrifting deals. When I’m on that side of town I always stop at Lakeshore Learning and see what new goodies are available for my caseload.
If you have a Lakeshore near you, you know my habit! Lakeshore reached out and asked me to review one of their new products so I snagged their Count the Syllables Sorting Center. They provided the material but these opinions are just mine.
The set has 50 acorn cards. Each with a picture on the it. The acorns should be sorted by the length of syllables into the correct squirrel’s basket.
The back of the squirrel has the correct answer so the students can check their work.
The sorting center worked great for articulation students as well as phonology students.
Pros: Compact storage, clear pictures, engaging activity, self-checking
Cons: I wish the pictures included words to enforce the literacy skills.
Lakeshore wants to give all Speech Room News readers an 20% off coupon. This set retails for $19.99. If you’ve tried it before let me know how it went!
