#MoreAlikeThanDifferent

World Down Syndrome Day

March 21  (3/21) is World Down Syndrome Day!  Today celebrates an extra 21st chromosome in people with Down syndrome. WDSD is used to educate, celebrate, and bring awareness to these special members of our community.   Here are three cool ways to get involved beyond speech therapy for your clients!

I love the current campaign on social media using #MoreAlikeThanDifferrent. Sharing this quick YouTube video on your social media is a super easy way to share your support for WDSD! Go farther and share your own picture with #MoreAlikeThanDifferent.

Rock your Socks! Today, wear your mismatched socks and celebrate those chromosomally enhanced people in your life with the campaign from WordDownSyndromDay.com.  Every time someone asks you about your socks, use that opportunity to educate!

Donate! Ruby’s Rainbow is a non-profit focused on higher education for people with Down Syndrome.

Find out more about the scholarship program on Ruby’s Rainbow.Org.  If you want to read more about the colleges and programs that students are enrolled in through Ruby’s Rainbow, check out the blog.

Many speech-language pathologists have strong relationships with children with Down syndrome because we work to improve their communication skills. I love reading parent blogs to try to understand that perspective as well. Some of my favorites including Enjoying the Small Things, Pudge and Biggie, and Confessions of the Chromosomally Enhanced.

Happy World Down Syndrome Day!!!
