Let’s Be Social: App Review

Let’s Be Social is a new app from Everyday Speech. Let’s Be Social targets social language instruction through interactive lessons. The app comes with 25 lessons for the following topics: recognizing emotions, solving problems, friendships, and prediction. Start by selecting a topic. Then choose a lesson.  The lesson has a short paragraph describing the situation/topic.  This is followed by 4 follow-up questions. The app is geared toward younger children. It is appropriate for my k-3rd graders.  Need a different social lesson? You can make your own lessons using your own pictures.  Start by creating a lesson.  I created a lesson about using my smartphone to play QR code games. Add your lesson paragraph.  Then create your questions.  Pros: I love the ability to make your own lessons with questions. I can customize stories occasionally for students.  Cons: I wish the included lessons were a bit more ‘deep’. They are all very basic stories. Not everything is so ‘cut and dry’ when teaching social lessons so I wish some of the situations and examples were more about the grey areas of social communication.  The app is for sale for $14.99 in the app store. Everyday Speech provided me with a copy of the app for free in exchange for this review, but the opinions are only mine!
