September is one of my favorite times I stop into my favorite thrift shops. I head straight to the Halloween costume racks. I love costumes. I have a whole box of them in my basement. You just never know when you’re going to need a hamburger costume or a flamingo costume.
This month I spotted some great story re-telling props at my Thrift store. They were all marked 75% off of the regular thrifty prices so I couldn’t resist! I snagged this kids Little Red Riding Hood Cape for a dollar. On the next rack over was an adult ‘Big Bad Wolf’ costume for three bucks! I was so excited. The paws and hat will totally still work for the little guys!
I’m planning to pair the costumes with my book unit for Little Red Riding Hood. Learning through play is the best and I can’t wait to see how my little guys can act out the story! I just have to find a picnic basket to finish out the set!
Have you used costumes for story retell? What stories have you used them for?

I Love this idea! Might just have to visit the local thrift store to see what I can find. I love the idea of using puppets too. Thanks for sharing all of your creative ideas!
