Using themed apps is one of my favorite ways to do therapy with my preschoolers. I wanted to share what I’ve been using this month for Thanksgiving.
Our classrooms have lots of food centers set up so when this little fellow came over to speech wearing his chef attire I had to snap a picture! He is tapping the salt shaker into his biscuit recipe while we created a yummy Thanksgiving dinner!
My absolute favorite app for this time of year is More Holiday Dinner.
You open the app and select what foods to cook. The picture above is a kiddo peeling a potato before putting in the stove to boil for mashed potatoes.
Most of the recipes have the kids drag the ingredients to the bowl. Then stir and put it in the oven. Everyone was a little wary of “stuffing the turkey.”
One you’re done cooking all the food, fix yourself a plate, and then enjoy the feast! This app works on sequencing, vocab, grammar, and is great for articulation carryover.
More Thanksgiving Dinner (99 cents) is well worth the cost! It is officially my favorite Thanksgiving App!
More Pie (99 cents) is another app from the same developer. It’s great for the holidays!
Articulate It Pro ($39.99) is a great app from my friends at Smarty Ears. Over the summer they added a MAJOR update that allows you to use themes! HELLO. GENUIS. When you use the Thanksgiving theme you hear a turkey noise every time you score an answer. My kiddos were giggling non-stop. When you use the app you can select targets by sound, manner, phonological process or syllable number.
Handprint Turkey (free) is an app I’m using with my most severe students who have severe handicaps. It is a cause/effect app. When you put your hand on the screen it makes a turkey.
Pocket Charts, Happy Thanksgiving (free) is a picture matching card game.
There are some other coloring or turkey plucking apps out there but these are the five that I have used the most this month! Gobble Gobble! If you have a favorite Thanksgiving app share it in the comments!

Thank you! Love themes too!
For the bigger guys, I like Save the Turkey simply as reinforcement.
I’ll check it out Annie!
I love your activities!!!
And- I had no idea you could choose themes for Articulate It! Thanks for the tip! 🙂
My favorite apps are no-language pics only realized nail vacbulary. Try My First Apps. I say “talk before touch!” And we talk about why things are associated, what group they belong in, or why they are different. Even the matrices are fantastic.
I love all the “More” food apps, especially More Holiday Dinner. They’re so cute and target many goal areas. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the ideas! Please do a similar post for Christmas apps!!
More Thanksgiving Dinner is great! My Kindergarten students love it!
Thanks for sharing!
I love the More Holiday Dinner app! I have used it for years with my high school special needs students for expressive and/or receptive language skills. If you don’t have the app I highly recommend you get it.
You have amazing ideas! I love to do the Pam Marshalla’s “Do You Like Pie” song between Thanksgiving and New Years. Now I will have a Pie app to go with it. Thank you!
