As the world of AAC devices moves toward iPads for many students instead of dedicated devices, SLPs are tasked with new challenges. One of those is finding ways to make sure we are feature matching the iPad app and accessories with what our students need.
One of my students is using an iPad with the Go Talk app. Our team decided that we needed to add a key guard to the device. I hadn’t seen anyone posting about key guards for iPads but did some research and found a company, Lasered Pics Assistive Technology, that makes plastic key guards for many different apps including the Go Talk app, SonoFlex, Proloquo2Go and more.
His attached with straps over his existing device which is perfect if we need to take it off to program, etc. This student has been using the cover for about two months now and it’s durability seems great!
You can check out their entire set of keyguards for iPads here. They run around $24 each plus the purchase of a clasp to attach it depending on your case. I love that it’s affordable, so you don’t feel like you’re taking a huge risk with funding if the guard doesn’t work out for your student.
Another feature I’m searching for are the perfect strap! Do you have one you’ve used and loved?
