Organization Quick Tip: Desktop Computer

Let’s get organized! This is the first of several posts about being organized in order to simply life and maximize your time!

Organization Tips for SLPs. Organizing your Desktop

One of my goals this year is to tackle clutter in all the small places it builds up in my life. First stop, my desktop. I’m a visual learner, visual worker, visual person… period. I need to keep my files where I can see them when I’m working on them. Which means about every 3 months my desktop has 179 files plopped down on it. I sort them into folders but they still build back up.

My organization strategy is to implement a desktop organizer. I downloaded one from a site called the Inspired VA. Just save the image as a photo to your computer. Then change it to your wallpaper. Drag the files into the spaces marked on the desktop. If you don’t like the color scheme, just google image search “desktop organizer wallpaper”.

Using an organized Wallpaper

The goal is to still use my desktop as my “open projects” holding ground but to be intentional about only leaving really important projects open here. I also made a commitment to myself that I will only let one of the categories on mine get full before I re-organize it!

When you download the document, you can also open it in powerpoint and add writing to the white tabs! Then re-save it as a PNG or JPEG file and then save it. I added the categories current projects, quick finds, and future projects. I left one area blank and right now it has random inspirations!

Download the template I used from this website. Drop me a comment and let me know how you keep your files organized!
