Back Pocket Monsters is a game I dreamed up back in graduate school. I first made a version of it when I was doing student teaching and I pulled out my old file and re-vamped it at the beginning of this year! I thought I would share it with you today and hope you can use it this week! In this game, students each get a pocket! Little monsters like to live in these pockets. Every time your student answers the questions correctly, they add another monster to their pocket. But watch out! Little boys like to bust those monsters and throw them out of their pockets! The first version targets some basic inferencing skills. I have been using them with both my articulation and language kiddos. Grab the INFERENCES version here. I also made a version of this game that focuses on irregular plurals. Your student has to name the plural for each word they pick! But watch out for those little boys! Grab a copy of IRREGULAR PLURALS here!

Thank you for sharing. I hope I can sign in at school and use the color printer there to print them out. It is always nice to have fresh new ideas to use, especially as we hit the mid-winter blahs.

Jenna – I just love all of your ideas. You are so creative! I have a few things I’d like to make myself (then share!) – I was just wondering where you get your fonts and pictures and what program you use to make the games?
Jenna Rayburn says
Roman –
Fonts: KevinandAmanda.com (I use Pea Hollee and Pencil Pete Fonts the most)
Program: Powerpoint or Word
Pics: google image search most of the time. occasionally (like with this one) I buy graphics. If you search scrapbooking graphics you will get some ideas. I buy when they’re on their 99cent sale!
Goodluck! Let me know what you come up with! I love sharing!

These are great and so cute!! What age would you recommend them for?
Jenna Rayburn says
I made them with my 2nd graders in mind… But have been using them with 1st through 3rd! Just depends on skill level an how severe their language impairments are!

How exactly do you use the little pockets? I am in the process of cutting/laminating so we can use these for the month of October in 7-12 grade! They are cute but not too childish so we can get away from worksheets! I was thinking of just putting the pockets on some envelopes? How are they meant to go?
Thanks for sharing this fun activity!
Jenna Rayburn says
I cut out the pockets and keep them on the table. Then my kids put the cards ‘under’ it as it’s in the pocket. You could def. use the envelopes too!

Awesome! Thanks!
