Syllable Splash {App Review & Giveaway}

Syllable Splash is the latest app from Smarty Ears. As you might have guessed by the name, it’s an ocean themed app targeting phonological awareness skills of syllable segmenting. The app is designed with preschool- kindergarten students in mind. The game contains hundreds of images of 1-4 syllable words.  Get set up by adding students with pictures or avatars.  Edit your settings including how many foils are added and the type of syllables to include.  To play the students are prompted with an image and asked to identify how many syllables it has. My students favorite part was the shark eating their wrong answer. Which might have led to a few extra mistakes on purpose!  Data is collected throughout the app and visible with options to share/print.  Cons: The syllable numbers at the bottom are mixed in the app. When playing with 4 options, I really wish they stayed labeled 1-4 across the bottom. The confusion of the out of order numbers was difficult with some of my students.  Pros: This app can be used to target a lot of phonological awareness goals. We used the same words to target rhyme and alliteration too! The app has a built in feature that increases difficulty automatically if selected. So if they answer 10 correct in a row, the app adds another foil.  The app is currently listed for $9.99 in itunes. If you’d like to win a free copy, please use rafflecopter to enter to win! Disclosure Statement: Speech Room News was provided a copy of this app for review. No other compensation was provided.  a Rafflecopter giveaway
