FREE SLP CEUs

Continuing education is a requirement for Speech-Language Pathologists but it doesn’t have to break the bank. If you’re still paying back student loans from your degree, finding free CEUs is amazing. I’ve compiled a list of resources for finding free CEUs. I hope it saves you time and money!

**Updated November 2019

  • The Leaders Project. Teachers College of Columbia University. Law and Evidence-based Approaches for Disability Evaluation and ReSources (LEADERS) provides a variety of CEU courses related to SLPs. The LEADERS site features a media library with video modules for practitioners and educators with a particular focus on appropriate disability evaluations, cleft palate and craniofacial issues, and treatment approaches from Dr. Crowley’s international work
  • Video Continuing Education VCE offers one free ASHA approved CEU from their library of over 200 courses.
  • Presence Learning: Presence Learning offers several different webinars including current topics of Inclusion and Behavior.
  • Super Duper: Super Duper offers a free course focusing on Ethics and one on Literacy at the moment! Courses change so check back!
  • Mayer-Johnson: MJ offers several free webinars about their products that demonstrate skills for using Boardmaker.
  • AAC Institute: The Self-Study Program (SSP) offers the opportunity to learn about various aspects of AAC that support the goal of the most effective communication possible for the individual. The courses allow individuals to work at their own pace. The first four courses are free.
  • Passy Muir: The live webinars have been recorded and are now available as self-study courses to be taken at your convenience. These courses are designed to increase clinical knowledge of the Passy-Muir® Valve in the areas of assessment and placement, dysphagia and improving swallow, pediatric issues, ventilator application, and team building.
  • Dynavox: Online webinars for core vocabulary, devices, and more.
  • Northern Speech Services: NSS offers paid CEUs. To get the courses for free, sign up to complete a peer review.
  • Pearson: Pearson offers some free webinars. There are several coming up in March. Sign up on the website.
  • AbleNet: AbleNet offers webinars for a ton of assistive technology devices. Lots of good information here about the integration of iPhones and Chrome books into school work too.
  • Lingraphica: Several free CEU courses for aphasia and AAC.
  • Bilinguistics: Several free and also paid CEUs. Most of their CEUs are very affordable.

    • I am a SLPA looking for free CEUs. I checked this out apparently you must be an ASHA member to take advantage of this.

  • I got some ceus from interactive metronome this past year, they were pretty easy to get but after you sign up I’ve had them randomly call me.

  • Northern Speech Services had a code from ASHA they advertised like crazy. It is: NSSCEU15. This gives you credit of $24 to a CEU course of higher cost or $24 course for free. Hurry, it expires 3/31/16!!!

  • SpeechPathology.com offers first course free. Select from most of their 1-2 hour courses use code SPFREE16.

    • THanks Jenna! They don’t have to be ASHA approved to count towards your ASHA hours. You can take CEUs for example at your school district and they still count but aren’t ASHA approved.

  • How do the Ablenet CEUs work? I can’t figure out where to put my ASHA number.

  • Jenna: Thank you for these resources! I am mostly retired, but work from time to time and want to keep my licenses/certificates up with no cost.

  • Jenna,
Thank you for directing me to leadersproject.com through Columbia University for their free CEUs. The last two summers, I have learned SO much through their inservices!

  • Thank you so much for all you do for your fellow SLPs! I am certain that I am one of many, many SLPs who greatly appreciate your time, dedication, and thoughtfulness.

I have a quick question about the Leaders Project courses. I completed a 5-hour course recently, and I received (via email) a certificate that made me go “Hmmm.” Unlike most certificates for CEUs, it contains a blurb at the bottom that says something about the certificate “not being proof of CEUs earned.” What do they mean? Since I do not participate in the ASHA paid registry, they will not be sending any other certificate to ASHA on my behalf. I keep up with my own certificates/CEU hours in case I am audited. Is this certificate worthless to me if I get audited by ASHA? Thank you to anyone who can offer some insight.

    • Hey Bridget, I’m not affiliated with them. You’ll need to contact them to ask. Jenna

      • Thank you for the prompt response! I asked them, but they just said to ask ASHA (I will have to ask ASHA later, as they are closed until Tuesday). I hope that the Leaders Project certificate is valid for ASHA CEU credit, since they offer a lot of great courses. Happy New Year!

        • Hello! Did you ever receive any resolution to this? I had a similar experience and am wondering if these credits will not work.

  • Thank you so much for this resource! But SLPs can only use 6hours of self-study or online resources, correct?

      • Can I follow up on this question as this has perplexed me in my 8 years of being an SLP?! For ASHA CEU hours, is there a restriction on the amount of online/self-study hours? I understand that for state licenses this may be different, but specifically related to ASHA, is there a requirement for live/in-person hours vs. online? Any guidance would be appreciated!

On a different note, I have been using this blog post for reference of free CEU hours for years! I so appreciate that you wrote it and I appreciate all the updated comments with new ideas. Thank you, Jenna!
